Twin Peaks
The body of a young girl (Laura Palmer) is washed up on a beach near the small Washington state town of Twin Peaks. FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper is called in to investigate her strange demise only to uncover a web of mystery that ultimately leads him deep into the heart of the surrounding woodland and his very own soul.
Twin Peaks, the brainchild of David Lynch and Mark Frost (and a host of exceptionally talented writers, directors and assorted behind-the-scenes creative artisans) trod a particularly precarious path through the land mines of television prime time production and marketing in the early 1990s. It also required something not all viewers were willing to invest: focus and concentration. The tangled tale, shot through with allegory and obscure references, featured an exceptionally large cast (all seemingly, maddeningly, integral to plot progression). Casual viewing on the fly was virtually impossible; this was not a show you could haphazardly catch every other week without feeling completely bewildered.
